For more than 30 years now, the Wimpissinger family has welcomed the guests to Lindauer Hof from near and afar. Please find some basic details below on the creation and history of Lindau, the former imperial free city, and on our hotel, where hospitality has had top priority up to the present day.

In the 9th century, Lindau was mentioned by name for the first time in documents. The town grew quickly starting from the convent, became a market town and an imperial free city in the 13th century. During construction work, a building block was discovered with the date 1612. Due to its favourable location in the vicinity to the old lighthouse, built during the 13th century, the hotel is quite certainly considerably older.

On 15th February 1876, the master tailor Johann Dittling and his wife Kunigunde took over the "Deutsches Haus" inn. After two years of change of ownership and renaming to "Lindauer Hof", the hotel came into "permanent hands" in 1910, when Jakob Stoffel bought the Lindauer Hof for 230,000 gold marks (the currency at that time).
After his death, his daughter Christine Rhomberg took over the management. She sold "Lindauer Hof" in 1974, at the age of 75 and after the death of her husband.

In 1943/44, the hotel accommodated boys and girls evacuated from Augsburg's Anna-Gymnasium (grammar school) (in World War II, city children were evacuated to the countryside to protect them from air raids). Afterwards and up to the end of war, it served as a military hospital. It could open as a hotel again only in 1949. The chronicle for the year 1952 records two important events: the visit of Federal President Theodor Heuss, who stayed as a guest of Lindauer Hof and the construction of a new terrace, which soon enjoyed great popularity with the guests.

We, this means Karin and Gert Wimpissinger, took over the operation of the café and hotel in June 1975. Here, we sensed at once that a life-long task would await us. The wish arose to make the hotel into a permanent "home" – which we succeeded in doing by December 1979. Renovation and conversion work took place in the eighties and in the mid-nineties. The redesigning of the attic floor in combination with the installation of luxurious and spacious junior suites and enchanting roof-gardens formed the crowning conclusion. The new coat of paint of the facade, which thus helped to give our hotel its unmistakable "look", marked the temporary finale.
One thing has remained over the centuries, however: Lindauer Hof is a refuge even for demanding guests. And it offers a unique atmosphere directly by Lindau's harbour. We also want to live up to this demanding standard in the years to come in combination with our renowned hospitality.
